Bread for the World

Bread for the World (BFW) is a nationwide Christian citizens' movement that seeks justice for the world's hungry people by lobbying our nation's decision makers. BFW members contact their members of Congress about legislation that affects hungry people in the United States and worldwide. Thousands of local churches and community groups support Bread for the World with letters to Congress and financial gifts. Some Bread for the World members meet locally to pray, study, and take action together. They meet with their representatives in Congress, organize telephone trees, win media coverage, and reach out to new churches. Many Women of the ELCA participants are involved in BFW’s annual Offering of Letters.

Church Women United

Church Women United (CWU) is an ecumenical grassroots movement of Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and other Christian women, organized in state and local units throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Founded in 1941, CWU works in coalition with religious and secular organizations around common issues of peace and justice. Women of the ELCA encourages its participants to take part in the annual World Day of Prayer, May Friendship Day, and World Community Day worship services and activities.

ELCA World Hunger Program

The ELCA World Hunger Program helps people help themselves through emergency relief and long-term development in the United States and abroad. The ELCA works through many partners including Lutheran World Relief and the Lutheran World Federation. In addition, hunger education, advocacy, and stewardship of resources are important aspects of the ELCA World Hunger Program. Women of the ELCA supports the Hunger Program through its Designated Gifts program.
